PROPERTY TAX NOTICES

Property Tax Notices have been mailed.

Please remember to fill out the back portion of the notice to claim your Home Owner’s Grant and bring it into the Village Office.

The property tax deadline is Thursday July 02, 2020.  A penalty of 1% for any current year taxes owing after the deadline will be applied.  A final 9% penalty will be applied October 01, 2020 for any current year taxes left owing after September 30, 2020.  Postmarks are not accepted as proof of payment.

Payment options include:

1)  At the Village of Masset Office, please use our drop box if possible

2)  Mailed to P.O. Box 68 Masset B.C. VOT 1M0

3)  Couriered to 1686 Main Street Masset   B.C. V0T 1M0

4)  Online Payments can be made if you have an account with Northern Savings Credit Union

5)  Electronic funds transfers can be made from your financial institution to the Northern Savings Credit Union             

The Village of Masset account information is:

If you do use this process, please either fax to (250) 626-3968, email cfo@mhtv.ca  or call us at (250) 626-3995 with information  regarding the amount of your payment, date of your transfer, your roll number and the institution the transfer was sent from to ensure that we can properly identify your payment and apply it correctly to your account.

Please note that we accept only cash or cheque for property tax payments. 

Postdated cheques are acceptable. 

We do not accept debit or credit card payments.       

 

BC ASSESSMENT NOTICES

Keep your eyes open for the BC Property Assessment notices.  The assessment is based on July 1, of the previous year’s market values.  For more information on how assessments are determined please contact 1-866-825-8322.  You can also get more information regarding this issue online at http://www.bcassessment.ca 

 

HARBOUR DAY/SPRING CLEANUP

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and out of an abundance of caution the 2020 Harbour Day celebrations and Spring Cleanup have been cancelled.  Regular garbage pickup is in effect.  If you have any questions or concerns please call the Village Office 250-626-3995

 

BUSINESS FAƇADE IMPROVEMENT FUNDING

Business Façade Improvement Funding is again available.  Does your building need a facelift, or were you planning improvements to the exterior of your building?  You may be eligible for up to $5,000.00 in grant funding.  Smaller home based businesses are eligible for funding for signage as well up to $500.00.  Please call the Village Office for a program guide and application.

 

VILLAGE OF MASSET

The Village of Masset office is now open to walk in traffic.  Please help us by using the drop box located to the left of the door for payments if possible.  Service is limited to two customers inside at a time. If you have any questions or concerns please call 250-626-3995 Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

 

MEAL DELIVERY

Northern Health, in collaboration with Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay Secondary School, Canadian Rangers and the Village of Masset, is pleased to be able to provide nutritious meals once a week for vulnerable residents of the Village of Masset.  Families and seniors who are in need will have access to this service supported by funding from Gwaii Trust.

Meals will be prepared in a certified food safe facility and delivered Wednesdays using BC Centre for Disease Control food safety protocols.

If you are in need of healthy meals for yourself and members of your family, please call the Village of Masset office at 250-626-3995 Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Deadline for Wednesday delivery will be Tuesday at 12:00 noon each week.  Please let us know how many members of your household require meals.

This service is free of charge.

 

NORTHERN HAIDA GWAII VISITOR CENTRE

The visitor centre is now closed.  Please call the Village of Masset Office at 250-626-3995 if you have questions.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

 

BUILDING BYLAW No. 630

Siting and Use Application and Permit

Before you start a new project please note that the Village of Masset has bylaws in place to ensure that zoning and land use regulations are being adhered to by way of a Siting and Use Permit.  Please call or email the village office for a Siting and Use Application and review the Zoning Bylaw before you start construction.  There is no cost for the application and permit.

 

RECYCLING

NCRD Service Restoration Plan

Residential recycle bins remain closed however Masset residents who want to recycle plastics and paper products can now bring them to the landfill in Port Clements.  Hours are Tuesday to Saturday 9 am to 3 pm.  Residents dropping off recyclables at the landfill are required to pre-sort their materials, only two people will be allowed in at a time and residents are asked to respect directional signage that is being put in place.  NCRD is currently not able to accept glass, tin cans or Styrofoam materials.

 

NOTE FOR SENIORS

If you are 65 yrs. or older please let us know, the Village of Masset offers a seniors rate for utilities.  Proof of age is required for us to apply this lower rate.
