GARBAGE RATES

Residents of the Municipality of the Village of Masset

Please be advised that the garbage rates, as set by the North Coast Regional District, are increasing by $4.00 per month, as of January 1, 2021.

The following are the new totals:

*Note to anyone with Automatic Transfers set up, please ensure you adjust your payments for the new amounts to ensure a smooth transition.

UTILITY AND PROPERTY TAX BALANCES

Please be advised that any outstanding amounts on your utility account as of December 31, 2020 have been transferred to your property taxes as arrears and will be accumulating interest.

*This includes people who have automatic transfers set up from NSCU.

BC ASSESSMENT NOTICES

Keep your eyes open for the BC Property Assessment notices.  The assessment is based on July 1, of the previous year’s market values.  For more information on how assessments are determined please contact 1-866-825-8322.  You can also get more information regarding this issue online at https://www.bcassessment.ca/

GARBAGE PICKUP

A reminder to all residents in order to avoid messes and encounters with wildlife please ensure your garbage is secured in an appropriate receptacle and left at the curb on pickup days.

DOG TAGS ARE DUE TO BE RENEWED

When licensing your dog we require their name, colour, breed and your contact information in case he or she is picked up.

BUSINESS FACADE IMPROVEMENT FUNDING

Business Façade Improvement Funding is again available.  Does your building need a facelift, or were you planning improvements to the exterior of your building?  You may be eligible for up to $5,000.00 in grant funding.  Smaller home based businesses are eligible for funding for signage as well up to $500.00.  Stop by the Village Office for a program guide and application.

BUSINESS LICENSE RENEWAL

Business License Fees are now due for 2021.  If you are paying online or at the Credit Union, please notify the office to ensure that your payment is applied to the correct account. 
If you no longer require a business license, please call the office at 250-626-3995.

BUILDING BYLAW No. 630

Siting and Use Application and Permit

Spring is here so before you get busy and start a new project please take note that the Village of Masset has bylaws in place to ensure that zoning and land use regulations are being adhered to by way of a Siting and Use Permit.  Please visit the village office to pick up a Siting and Use Application and review the Zoning Bylaw before you start construction.  There is no cost for the application and permit.

NOTE FOR SENIORS

If you are 65 years or older please let us know, the Village of Masset offers a seniors rate for utilities.  Proof of age is required for us to apply this lower rate.

NORTHERN HAIDA GWAII VISITOR CENTRE

The Visitor Centre is now closed. Please call the Village of Masset office at 250-626-3995 if you have questions.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

VILLAGE OF MASSET

The Village of Masset office is now open to walk in traffic.  Please help us by using the drop box located to the left of the door for payments if possible.  Service is limited to two customers inside at a time.
