Watermain Replacement

Our watermain project is well underway with excavation in progress on almost all of the streets that will be affected.  Drivers and pedestrians alike are encouraged to exercise caution when travelling on streets where work has been started.  All of the rules of the road apply and the Northbound lane of Main Street between Collison and Hodges is closed to traffic at present.  We have noticed that some drivers are ignoring the posted signs and travelling North in the Southbound lane.  Please obey the posted signs to avoid confusion and accidents.

Over the next few weeks the work of connecting the newly installed pipes will begin, and this will result in short service disruptions to businesses and residents on the affected streets.  We will do everything possible to minimize these disruptions but they are unavoidable.

While re-paving of the streets where asphalt was removed will not happen until summer of 2018, we felt that option was better than having the entire project take place during the busy summer season.  We will do our best to maintain the cuts in the pavement until they are permanently repaired and encourage drivers to slow down in these areas in the meantime.

The Village of Masset would like to thank residents for their continued patience throughout this project.  While there is some short term pain this project does improve the long term viability of our overall water distribution system.

Update on Solar Installations

The solar panels that were installed last year on the public works building and the airport have now been in service for one full year.  The public works shop had the largest installation and it has generated 21.18 MWh of electricity since it was installed and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by and estimated 15.51 tonnes.

The airport installation has generated 15.57 MWh of electricity in the past year and has reduced greenhouse gases by approximately 11.45 tonnes.
