The Opportunity

Are you a self-directed professional with a background in harbour management/operations? If you are, then consider applying for the position of Harbour Manager at the Village of Masset. This is a contract position with terms to be discussed with the successful candidate.

The Position 

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Harbour Manager directs and coordinates the administrative and operational activities of the Delkatla Slough Harbour.  This position is responsible for the overall management and operations of Delkatla Slough Harbour, which includes, but not limited to: berthage, the provision of power, ancillary services, and maintenance. Work is performed according to policies established by the Village of Masset Harbour Authority while incorporating latitude for independent judgment in the selection of work methods and procedures.

The Harbour Manager is expected to develop and implement new procedures, methods, and undertakings that will enhance the operation of the Harbour office. These duties are to be carried out while maintaining an exceptionally high degree of safety, aesthetic appeal and customer satisfaction.  The work of the Harbour Manager requires close attention to detail in matters of customer service, facility operations and emergencies.

The position of Harbour Manager is self-directed professional responsible for all aspects of Harbour operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Harbour Manager schedules his/her time in accordance with the requirements necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

The Requirements

A post secondary education supplemented by harbour management/operations training.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Must be able to work independently with little supervision. 
Able to undertake outside operational duties.
Must be customer focused.
Thorough knowledge of general boat handling, mooring and docking practices applicable to the operation and use of Harbour facilities.
Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
Must be able to lead and maintain one’s composure during emergency situations.
Have good financial management skills.
Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and financial systems.
Possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
Comprehensive knowledge, interpretation and application of Federal, Provincial, and local regulatory requirements affecting the operation of the Harbour.
